The Sixers did finish 3 of 5 on the West Coast, but did it against different teams than I predicted. They looked a little flat in Golden State, but came out firing in Portland, who had a home record of 28-6 in the Rose Garden. The Sixers won the game 114-108 in overtime, despite a 14 point lead at the half. After the game Coach DiLeo said, “I think this shows the growth of our team to go into Los Angeles and beat the Lakers, then come here where they have a great home record and win in overtime." This road trip also showed DiLeo’s improvement as well. In the final drive of the game he put Ivey on Roy, who made him force up a difficult shot. Green was covering Roy the possession before and got beat by a step and DiLeo saw that and put the better defender on him. The Sixers 3-headed monster, Young ,Iggy, and Miller put up a total of 77 points in the game. All 3 of these stars are starting to put up big numbers and are doing so at the right time.

Wednesday night the Sixers came back to the Wachovia Center and beat the T-Wolves 96-88. Thaddeus scored team high 29 points and had his career high, 5th straight 20 point game. Yes this kid is putting up big numbers, but the way he does it is incredible. There was one play that caught my eye in this game and it came within the remaining minute of the 3rd quarter. Miller was bringing up the ball off a rebound and Thaddeus turns on the gas and sprints by the whole team for a bounce pass and then was mugged by Telfair. Most games come down to 10 or less possessions and seeing a “Young” kid, no pun intended, hustling down the court and putting his body on the line for a basket shows a lot of character. Ivey also came up big again, but this time on the offensive end knocking down two 3-pointers in the 4th quarter.

There are 12 games left in the season and 8 of those games come against teams with losing records. We are now .5 game back on Miami from the 5 spot and 4 games behind Atlanta in the 4 spot. The Sixers are playing potentially the best basketball they have all year and luckily it has come at the best time of the year. Everyone has been stepping up to their roll and this team has been proving they are playoff quality.
