Another Bump in the Road

On March 31st the Sixers hit another bump in the road when emerging star, Thaddeus Young, sprained his ankle against the Hawks. A Sixers team doctor said that Thaddeus has a sprain and bone bruise that is expected to keep him sidelined for about 2 to 3 weeks. First it was the slow start, then the coaching change, next was the bust/injury of Elton Brand and now Thaddeus Young who has been playing brilliant basketball could miss the beginning of the playoffs. This couldn’t have come at a worse time, but the Sixers always seem to find a way to bounce back. Since Thaddeus is going to be sidelined for a couple weeks, certain guys, like Marreese Speights, are going to have to step their game up. Speights played 25 minutes on Tuesday night and had an impressive 16 points on 6 of 13 shooting. The Sixers took the W 98-85, winning 5 of their last 6 games in the Wachovia Center.

The Sixers 3-headed-monster of Young, Iguodala, and Miller have been playing as good as any 3 person combo in the league as of late, but Iggy and Miller will have to control the team’s last 9 games. Iguodala is going to have to prove to everyone why he should be valued as a team’s number 1 player, rather than a sidekick and lately his has proved jus that. Iggy has to keep up his current tear because we need him to play well to obtain this 5 spot in the East. I don’t want to sound like a broken record, but I can’t stress the importance of getting the 5 spot in the Eastern Conference. If we stay as the 6 seed we will have to play either the Boston Celtics or the Orlando Magic and we currently have a 0-6 combined record against these teams. If we land in the 5 spot we will tip off against the Hawks who we have beat, 2 out of 3 times this year and one of these wins was in Atlanta. Although the Hawks are 29-9 at Phillips Arena, I feel that we match up favorable against them and can win a playoff series against them. As a side note, the Heat play a tough game in Dallas tonight and we currently are only .5 games behind Miami, who have lost their last 3 of their last 4.
